About Us

The Robina Mudgeeraba Roos are proud to be one of the fastest-growing AFL clubs in South East Queensland, built on a foundation of passion, family, and teamwork.

Our story began in 2014 with the creation of the Mudgeeraba Spartans, following years of successful Auskick programs and the dedication of local parents who wanted to establish a club. By 2015, the Spartans officially joined AFL Gold Coast.

In late 2022, after years of growth and a strong working relationship, the Mudgeeraba Spartans Junior AFC and the Robina Roos AFC came together to form the Robina Mudgeeraba Roos. From 2023 onwards, juniors and seniors proudly compete side by side under the same banner for the first time.

Building Pathways for All

From Auskick through to Under 15.5’s, the Roos provide opportunities for boys, girls, and mixed teams. 2025 was a milestone year for our youth program, with all sides qualifying for finals. Which empasiszes our focus on development and investment into our program and the players who we are proud to have involved.

Community, Partnerships & Volunteers

The Roos are more than a football club—we’re a community. Our mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every player can enjoy their footy, develop their skills, and build lifelong friendships. With a “team-first” approach, our coaches strive to develop players as both footballers and people.

We’re also thrilled to have partnered with United GC Netball Club, uniting two grassroots organisations with a shared commitment to youth development, community connection, and volunteer support. Together, we’ll share facilities and resources, cross-promote opportunities, and strengthen the pathways for both AFL and netball families across the region.

Finally, the strength of the Roos lies in our volunteers. From committee members to game-day helpers, their tireless dedication drives everything we do. We’re especially proud to congratulate our Junior Football Director, Leigh Philpot, who was named QLD AFL Volunteer of the Year 2025—a recognition that reflects the heart and spirit of our club.

Coaches and Training

Footy is fun. At the Roos, we put fun and player development first — because we know from experience that strong development leads to outcomes and long-term success. Our goal is to provide the highest standard of coaching and player development while maintaining a healthy balance between nurturing growth and encouraging competitive spirit as players progress through their football journey.

We empower and support our coaches with resources, training, and guidance, helping them deliver quality coaching within the structures we provide and in line with the direction of the Committee and Coaching Coordinator.

Junior Player Age Group Participation Policy - RMROOS

Primary Age Group First

As our club continues to grow and participation numbers increase across all age groups, it is important we maintain a fair, consistent and development-fyocused approach to team selection.

This policy outlines how player movement between age groups will be managed moving forward.

Policy Statement

All players are required to play in their primary age group first, as determined by AFL age eligibility rules.

Playing up in an older age group may be considered only in exceptional circumstances and is not automatic. Any request to play up must be approved by both the Team Coach and the Coaching Director.

Why This Policy Exists

This policy has been introduced to ensure:

?? Fairness & Access to Games

With expected growth and squad caps in place across most age groups, the club must ensure:

  • Players in the correct age group are not missing games
  • Teams can be selected consistently week-to-week
  • Older age groups are not filled at the expense of eligible players

? Player Development

The club is committed to long-term player development, which is best supported by:

  • Playing at the most suitable age and stage
  • Building confidence through appropriate match-ups
  • Ensuring physical, emotional and skill readiness

Playing Up - Approval Criteria

A player may be approved to play up only if all of the following are met:

  • The player’s primary age group team is not negatively impacted (numbers, rotations, or game time)
  • The player demonstrates appropriate physical readiness and safety
  • The player shows suitable emotional maturity and confidence
  • The move is considered beneficial to the player’s development, not just convenience
  • The decision does not displace players in the older age group from their rightful team
  • Approval is granted by both the Coach and Coaching Director

Important Notes

  • Playing up is not guaranteed and may be occasional rather than weekly
  • Approval may be reviewed or withdrawn at any time based on team needs or player wellbeing
  • This policy applies to all junior age groups

Our Commitment

We remain committed to providing opportunities for players to challenge themselves where appropriate, while ensuring:

  • Fair access to games for all players
  • Strong team stability
  • Positive long-term development outcomes

As our club grows, clear standards like this help ensure every child has the best possible experience.
